Trimming Tips For Beginners
With hair salons continuing to open and close due to lockdown restrictions, we have all been tempted to cut our own hair or somebody else's hair at home.
Although our new Stainless 2000 Styling Shears offer the perfect professional tool to use when trimming hair yourself, why not take a quick look at our tips for trimming hair at home before you pick up the shears!
Allow margin for error
As a beginner stylist, less is definitely more - you can always trim more off later. Start by slowly trimming the hair bit by bit until you achieve the desired length.

Dry, clean hair is best
Although at the salon you will usually have your hair cut when wet or damp, as a beginner it may be easier to trim your hair when it is clean and dry, this will make it easier for you to judge the end result of your trimming. Also if the hair is oily or dirty, it will cling together and create an uneven finish.
Start from the back
For some reason, people prefer to start trimming hair from the front, when in fact it is better to start at the back whilst you become comfortable with your cutting technique. Work slowly and methodically following an expert's tutorial, you should try and find someone who is a professional hairdresser and follow their guidance. There are lots of great videos online!
Follow the direction of your hair
It is probably best that you try and follow the hairstyle that you already have, instead of trying out a whole new look if you are a beginner stylist. Pulling the hair straight upward with your fingers is the easiest way to make sure the hair length is even overall. Then, place your scissors parallel to the hair peeking through your fingers and snip hairs vertically rather than straight across whilst following the direction of the hair. This technique will give ends a more diffused look which will conceal uneven ends.
Remember to clean the shears with a santising alcohol after every use and also to be careful as they are super sharp!
